In my last post I wrote about how I needed to figure out all of the buttons and functions of my new camera.
Having no photography experience (except the cell phone cameras) it is a little daunting. So I downloaded the manual, and while it did describe the button functions, I still had no idea as to how to put it all together in the field.
Luckily, we have Youtube. A quick search of the Nikon D5600 and voila! A whole world of tips trick and advice. I landed on two sites in particular. Photo Genius and FroKnowsPhoto. Both of them have videos on a wide variety of cameras, not just a Nikon, and also a boatload of information on setting up your camera, accessories, tools etc. It is fantastic.
Photo Genius, founded by Paul Farris was extremely helpful in guiding me about the mechanical functions of my camera. Not only that, but his tutorials with shutter speed, ISO, lenses etc, really helped me in dialing in better pictures.
He also has tutorials of the editing software. Photoshop and Lightroom. These were also extremely helpful in cleaning up my beginner photos.
You can check out his videos here:
The next person who I am going to give a shoutout to is Jared Polin of FroKnowsPhoto.
Jared Polin put out the best operational video specific to my camera. Although there were some functions that he did not know what they were for, his tutorial was extremely helpful. I figure if he wasn’t worried about some of the functions then I wasn’t going to worry about it either. I enjoy how blunt Jared is with his reviews and tutorials.

There are of course other great photographers who were helpful in getting me started and I plan to write about them also in other posts. But for now, these two were the most helpful and I am thankful for what they do.
